After following the ACOM Needle Stick policy, follow the core site policy below:
- Student will immediately contact the Employee Health nurse during business hours or the House Supervisor after hours (after 5:00 pm).
- DO NOT DELAY! STUDENT WILL NEED TO HAVE BLOOD DRAWN FOR A RAPID HIV TEST AND THE SOURCE PATIENT WILL NEED TO HAVE A RAPID HIV TEST. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE QUICKLY AND IS REQUIRED FOR ANY SHARPS INJURY OR PATHOGEN EXPOSURE.
- Student's health insurance will be billed for all testing related to a sharps injury or pathogen exposure. If student's insurance does not cover these costs, student will be responsible for these charges.
