ACOM FACULTY & STAFF KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING

 

Audrey Gunn, OMS III, Awarded Second Place in the Alabama Academy of Science Health Sciences Poster Competition

Student physician Audrey Gunn received second place in the Health Sciences Poster Competition at the Alabama Academy of Science 98th Annual Meeting on March 18, 2021 for her poster entitled, "Maternal Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and Their Effect on Her Offspring."  The research concluded that adverse childhood experiences affect not only those who directly experience them but also future generations.

"Rapid Scholarship:  The BEME COVID-19 Experience"

Sebastian Alston, MD, will share his experiences as a member of a Best Evidence Medical Education (BEME) team and discuss the process of creating rapid systematic reviews and a scoping review of the emerging COVID-19 literature.  Findings from the review will be shared.

Systematic reviews and the process of creating them are relevant to enhancing ACOM's research, scholarship, and educational goals.  ACOM is a BEME International Collaborating Centre (BICC).  Information regardng BEME and the Association of Medical Education in Europe, the BEME parent organization, will also be shared.

They usually have a research poster session where our students have done very well.  Calls for abstracts have not yet been sent, but we're keeping an eye open and will let you know!

ACOM Summer Research Program
Students have been selected and we are getting ready to roll!  CITI training instructions will be emailed during the first week of April so keep an eye out.

Faculty!  Please submit your research proposals and budget for FY2021-2022 by April 30

Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
Dr. Eric Johnson, IBC Chair, will also be sending instructions for applying for and updating IBC project protocols.  Keep an eye out for that.  Questions about IBC?  Email IBC@acom.edu.
