Did you know that ACOM is a Healthy People 2030 champion? A picture containing text, outdoor, sign, pole

Description automatically generated

Healthy People 2030 is national health initiative from the United States Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (part of HHS) to help individuals, communities, and organizations to address public health priorities.  Healthy People 2030 provides evidence-based resources to help improve health and well-being through a series of objectives and tools to form policy and inspire action! Learn more HERE

ACOM was selected from over 5,000 competitive applications to be a Healthy People 2030 champion, and is the only Healthy People champion in the state of Alabama and the only osteopathic medical school to be recognized as such. ACOM was selected based on its commitment to disease prevention and an organizational mission that aligns with the Healthy People 2030 mission to promote, strengthen, and evaluate the nation’s efforts to improve the health and well-being of all people. To become a Healthy People 2030 Champion, an organization must:

  • Have a demonstrated interest in, understanding of, and experience with disease prevention, health promotion, social determinants of health, health literacy, health disparities, health equity, or well-being.
  • Have an organizational or corporate mission aligned with the Healthy People 2030 framework or objectives.
  • Sign a Partnership Agreement and Trademark License with ODPHP that includes details about how the organization supports the Healthy People 2030 vision.

ACOM/SHM Research Week and SOAR Poster Day were a great success!

ACOM Research Week was held November 29 – December 2, 2022. Nearly 100 posters were presented by ACOM students and faculty as well as Southeast Health (SEH) Internal Medicine residents.  Posters were presented virtually all week. Presenters engaged with the public through Twitter with judges from ACOM and SEH Internal Medicine faculty scoring posters throughout the week.

Research Week ended with a grand finale co-hosted by the Student Osteopathic Association for Research (SOAR) and ACOM!  This included optional in-person poster presentations, selected student 10-minute talks, and a keynote talk given by Dothan native and University of Alabama-Birmingham faculty member, Ellen Eaton, MD, MSPH. Students voted for their favorite posters, and winners are listed below.

Congratulations to the ACOM/SHM Virtual Poster Week winners!

Assessed by a number of ACOM and SEH IM faculty using set judging rubrics
