  • good clinician -- helps you learn from what he saw
  • treats ancillary staff well
  • gives constructive criticism
  • gives guidance through feedback
  • ability to instill confidence in the student
  • develop a rapport with the student -- start out slow and increase responsibilities as you go along
  • sets expectations at the beginning
  • able to communicate with patients on a level where the patient can understand
