In 2020, Alabama was tied with Mississippi for the highest stroke death rate in the United States (Figure 1)[1]. In 2015, the percentage of potentially excess stroke deaths was estimated to be 56.6 percent [2]. To bring greater awareness to these potentially excess stroke deaths and help identify ways to improve outcomes for these stroke patients, our research team has been analyzing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the percent of potentially excess stroke-related deaths each year in the state of Alabama.
